Endicott Tops Gordon, 24-5; Nardone Ties Hits & RBI Program Records

WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott baseball team defeated crosstown rival Gordon, 24-5, on Tuesday evening in conference action at J. Tec White Field.

WP (3-0): Alexander Zaiser (Naples, Fla.) —3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LP (1-3): Jacob Hitchock (Goodyear, Ariz.) — 4 IP, 9 H, 11 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) tied the single game program records for hits (5) and RBI (8) to highlight the Gulls.

Nardone shares the school record for most RBI with Anthony Serina '16 M'17 (Portsmouth, R.I.), who also accomplished the feat against Gordon on May 5, 2016 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament.

Nardone had a two-run single in the first (2-0), a run-producing double in the third (3-3), a sac fly in the fourth (7-3), a three-run homer in the fifth (15-3), and another RBI base hit in the seventh (17-5).

As for the hits record, Nardone is the only student-athlete in program history to record two five-hit games in his career. He originally tied the program record on 4/10/2021, also against Gordon.

Serina was the first student-athlete to register five hits in a contest, which occurred in his eight RBI performance, while four other student-athletes have accomplished the feat as well.

Nardone finished today's contest going 5-for-5 (triple shy of the cycle) with two runs scored and his eight RBI out of the cleanup spot.

Other Endicott highlights included a two homer/four RBI day from John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) and a four RBI effort from Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Mulready is the first student-athlete in program history to have three two-homer games in his career (4/1/22, 4/2/22, 4/12/22).
  • Perkins launched a grand slam in the fourth (11-3), while Mulready launched a solo homer in the fifth (12-3) and belted a three-run blast in the seventh (21-5). Mulready and Perkins rank No. 1 and No. 2 on the team in dingers at eight and six, respectively.
  • Endicott is 41-12 all-time against Gordon.
  • The Gulls are receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, and rank fourth in the latest New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Poll.
