Baseball Upends Southern Maine, 16-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team defeated Southern Maine, 16-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at North Field.

WP (2-0): John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (0-4): James Sinclair (Portland, Maine) – 2 2/3 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) capped a five-run first inning with a three-run shot to left field (second career HR) and the Gulls' offense stayed red hot throughout the rest of the contest for the victory.

Endicott also received homers from Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) in the second (3-run shot, 8-2), Thomas Barbieri (Cranston, R.I.) in the third (solo HR, 9-2), and Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) in the fifth (grand slam, 15-2).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 7-1 at home this season.
  • Connolly earned the win by the prearrangement bullpen rule.
  • Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) produced the first five-hit game of the season for Endicott going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI out of the two-hole.
  • Shpur's five-hit performance tied the program record (tied with five other entries) for most hits in a game.
  • Nardone (2-for-3, two runs, three RBI) is currently riding a 21-game hit streak dating back to 4/18/21.
  • Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) and Nardone have reached base safely in a team-best 16 straight games this season.
  • Millar produced his fifth multi-hit game of the season with a 3-for-4 (four runs, one RBI) line from the leadoff spot.
  • Notarangelo leads the team in multi-hit games with 11 (2-for-5, two runs, five RBI today).

Endicott (12-4) hosts Suffolk on Friday, April 1 at 3:30 PM. Southern Maine (4-10) travels to MIT this Friday at 3 PM.
