Colby Slips Past Endicott, 8-7

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Endicott baseball team lost to Colby College, 8-7, in non-conference action on Saturday evening at Northeast Regional Park.

WP (1-0): Cabot Maher (Barrington, R.I.) – 1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
LP (0-1): Will Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) – 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Tied 7-7 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Mules scored the game-winning run via a balk with runners on the corners to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Endicott trailed 5-0 after three and 7-4 in the top of the ninth before scoring three runs in its last frame to even up the contest at 7-7 prior to the anticlimatic balk-off ending.

Highlighting the Gulls offensively were Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.), Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.), Caleb Shpur (East Cannan, Conn.) and Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.).  

Notarangelo finished the game going 3-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI (two-run double in the fifth), while McKinley, Shpur, and Nardone also drove in runs in the loss.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Alexander Zaiser (Naples, Fla.) logged his first multi-inning relief appearance this season (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K).
  • Max Tarlin (Sharon, Mass.) tossed his third straight scoreless outing in relief (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K).
  • Bowdoin tied the all-time series at 7-7 with today's victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (7-3) is scheduled to visit Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday, March 22 at 4 PM. Colby (4-0) plays the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tomorrow at 12 PM in Lake Myrtle, Florida.
