Gulls Mash Nine Homers In Sweep Of Western New England, 7-4 & 15-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team defeated Western New England, 7-4 and 15-3 (7 inn.), in conference action on Saturday evening at North Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 7, Western New England 4

WP (2-0): Alexander Zaiser (Naples, Fla.) – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
LP (2-1): Kevin Hummer (Shrewsbury, Mass.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
SV (4): Max Tarlin (Sharon, Mass.) – 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.), Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) all homered in the victory.

Nardone belted a three-run homer to dead center field in the first to give the Gulls a 3-0 lead before Pacheco's solo shot in the fourth tied up the contest at 4-4.

From there, Perkins crushed a two-run homer to right center in the sixth (6-4) and Pacheco capped the scoring in the eighth with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.

Zaiser picked up the win after John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) bridged the gap from the fourth to the sixth inning (1 1/2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K).

Meanwhile, Ian Parent (Williston, Vt.) was solid over two-plus innings of work (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) prior to Tarlin coming in for the save.


GAME TWO: Endicott 15, Western New England 3 (7 inn.)

WP (2-0): Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) – 4 1/3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
LP (1-1): Robert Zawacki (Waterford, Conn.) – 2 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

For the second straight game, the Gulls broke their program record for most home runs in a game, this time with six to mercy rule the Golden Bears and complete the sweep.

John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) and Pacheco both homered twice in the nightcap becoming the first student-athletes in program history to hit two homers apiece in the same game.

Perkins and Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) also left the yard once, respectively, in the win. 

Endicott's six homers in game two rank tied for the fourth-most in NCAA Division III this season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls closed the gap in the all-time series to one game (24-23 WNE).
  • Endicott is 10-1 at home this season.
  • The Blue and Green have won four games in a row.
  • Pacheco notched a career-high five RBI in the second game.

Endicott (15-4, 3-0 CCC) visits UMass Boston on Tuesday, April 5 at 3 PM. Western New England (9-7, 1-2 CCC) travels to Wentworth next Tuesday at 6:30 PM.
