Baseball Splits With Vassar In Spring Break Opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Endicott baseball team split a pair of non-conference seven-inning games against Vassar (6-7 | 3-2, 9 inn.) on Sunday evening at Lake Myrtle Park – Field 2.

GAME ONE: Vassar 7, Endicott 6 (7 inn.)

WP (1-0): Joe Sabo (Cheshire, Conn.) – 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB
LP (1-1): Max Tarlin (Sharon, Mass.) – 0.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Tied 6-6 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jaden Millstein (Margate, N.J.) hit a sinking line drive single to right field to plate Ricardo Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) for the walk-off win.

Endicott entered the top of the seventh trailing 5-4 but rallied to take the lead behind a Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.) sacrifice fly and a RBI single by Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.).

Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.), Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.), and Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) also drove in runs in the loss.

GAME TWO: Endicott 3, Vassar 2 (9 inn.)

WP (1-0): Foch Lovejoy (Durham, N.H.) – 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
LP (0-1): Frankie Murphy (Medford, N.Y.) – 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Lovejoy made his first collegiate appearance count as the freshman righty tossed three scoreless innings, including two in extra innings, out of the pen to earn the win.

Much like game one, Millar was clutch for the Gulls late in the contest – this time coming through with a walk-off double to deep center field scoring Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) from third.

Notarangelo led off the frame with a double to center before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Thomas Barbieri (Cranston, R.I.).

Notarangelo also drove in the Gulls' first run of the matchup with a single to center, while Nardone plated a runner of his home with an identical hit.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • First-ever games against Vassar in program history.
  • Notarangelo went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI in the doubleheader.
  • Shpur was 4-for-9 with two runs scored and an RBI in the pair of games.
