Beverly, MA-- On the second day of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, the Gulls defeated the visiting Roger Williams Hawks, 2-0. EC scored in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Robyn Savitske turned in an outstanding performance carrying a perfect game into the 7th inning, before a two out walk to Michelle Picard. The no-hitter was Savitske's second of the season and third of her career.
Leadoff hitter, Paula McGinn started the inning off with a single, and advanced to second on the play. In similar fashion, senior co-captain Megan Young singled, reaching second on her hit. Rachel Pearson grounded out to the shortstop, but tacked on a RBI, brining in McGinn from third for the Gulls first run. Megan Huckins who went 3-for-3, delivered her first hit of the afternoon driving in Young from third.
Savitske pitched masterfly, and with the help of some solid defense by the Gulls, she was able to keep the Hawks at bay. In seven innings pitched, Savitske struck out five, improving her spectacular record to 20-0. In addition to Huckins 3-hit performance the Gulls also had some other offensive production through the bats of Pearson (2-for-3) and McGinn (2-for-4).
On Sunday, May 1st, the Gulls host the winner of the Curry College vs. Roger Williams University game, which will be played at 11:00am, followed by the CCC Championship game.
