Norton, MA-- The Endicott College softball team handed a pair of non-conference losses to host Wheaton College Tuesday afternoon, as the 18th-ranked Gulls posted 2-0 and 4-1 victories over the Lyons at Clark Field. Endicott extended its unbeaten streak to an outstanding 20 games, improving to 26-2-1 overall.
Endicott sophomore pitcher Robyn Savitske, who entered the game with an astounding 0.20 earned run average, threw a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk and the Gulls plated a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to capture the game one victory. Despite giving up the two singles and one walk, Savitske faced the minimum 21 batters, as Wheaton was caught stealing in each of its three opportunities.
In the top half of the fifth, the Gulls took advantage of two defensive errors, loading the bases. Katie Doherty reached on an error by the Wheaton leftfielder, followed by a Nicole Reather walk and an Ashley Labella single with only one out. A second Wheaton error off the bat of Megan Young scored the Gulls first run. Senior captain Elyse Colby then drew a walk that scored sophomore Ashley Labella for a 2-0 lead.
Savitske improved to 16-0 win the win. Savitske allowed only 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. Labella finished 2-for-3 with a run, while freshmanRachel Pearson also went 2-for-3.
