Beverly, MA-- The Gulls scored two runs in the bottom of the first and one run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, giving EC the convincing 4-0 win over Conference member, Anna Maria College.
Paula McGinn began the first inning with a walk, and was sacrificed to second thanks to senior co-captain Megan Young. In similar fashion, Elyse Colby advanced McGinn to third on a ground out to the pitcher. McGinn scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Megan Huckins earned a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Freshman Rachel Pearson reached on an error by the third baseman, which allowed Huckins to cross home plate.
In the second inning, Nicole Reather was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second on an Ashley Labella single. The two base runners advanced on a passed ball. Both Young and Colby earned walks. Colby earned her walk with the bases loaded, brining in the third run for the Gulls.
The Gulls capped off their scoring in the third inning. Katie Doherty singled, advancing to second on a Laura Schack sacrifice ground out to second base. Reather hit a single of her own, moving Missy Swymer, who pinch ran for Doherty. McGinn smacked a single and tallied a RBI as Swymer scored.
With the win, pitcher Robyn Savitske improved her outstanding record to 15-0. In the shutout, Savitske fanned seven, and did not allow a walk. The Gulls are 24-2-1, 17-1 in the CCC. Tomorrow, the Gulls travel to Wheaton College for a double header, which begins at 3:30p.m.
