BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The No. 3/4 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team knocked off Concordia (Texas), 7-3, in Sunday afternoon's NCAA Regional Final at Alumni Park.
WP (6-0): John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) — 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 5 K
LP (1-1): Gavin Voth (Liberty Hill, Texas) — 3.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
SV (2): Brady Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) — 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) once again kicked off the Gulls' offense in style, as he tripled to deep right center field and later came around to score on Kyle Grabowski's (Westfield, Mass.) sac fly to center to put the Gulls up 1-0 in the first.
However, the Tornadoes responded with a two-spot off Connolly in the second to take their first lead on the Gulls in the tournament.
They threatened once more in the top of the third, but Connolly gutted out a bases loaded, two-out situation, stranding the sacs full to hold the score at 2-1.
In the bottom of that frame, Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) led off and reached base on an error. His speed directly translated into the game-tying run, as Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) sliced a line drive over the head of the left fielder, scoring MacDougall from first.
Then, later in the inning, Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) reclaimed the lead for the Gulls with a bases-loaded line drive through the left side, scoring two to put the Gulls up 4-2.
Connolly came back out and dealt a clean 1-2-3 top of the fourth, aided by a diving catch in right field from Frammartino to close out the inning.
The Blue and Green tacked on another in the bottom of the fourth, as John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) came through with a clean RBI single to left with two out and runners on.
Connolly continued to roll through the fifth and sixth innings before handing off the ball to Stuart in the seventh. After Stuart posted a zero, TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) made it a four-run Gulls lead in the bottom of the seventh with a mammoth solo blast toward the trees in left center field.
The Tornados scratched a run across against Stuart in the eighth, but Grabowski immediately grabbed that run back in the bottom half of the eighth with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
Up 7-3 in the ninth, Stuart set down the Tornados via two groundouts and a flyout to send the Gulls back to their fourth straight NCAA Super Regional.
