Scully, Jenkins Combine To Go The Distance For No. 4/6 Baseball; Shut Out UMass Boston, 2-0

BOSTON, Mass. — The No. 4/6 Endicott baseball team was victorious over UMass Boston in Wednesday's 2-0 pitching duel.

WP (4-0): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 5+ IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
LP (2-1): Ross Dexter (Milton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
SV (1): Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) — 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

With the game scoreless in the third, the Blue and Green capitalized their second time through the order. Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) led things off with a double down the right field line before Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) walked to put two runners on with nobody out. The two then successfully pulled off a double-steal, putting themselves on second and third with nobody out in the inning.

Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) plated Stephenson with a sac fly to left, and then Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) followed up with an RBI single up the middle to drive in MacDougall.

That was all Scully and Jenkins needed to bring home the win.

The tandem combined to go nine full innings for the Gulls, limiting the Beacons to just two hits (five baserunners) along the way.

After Scully delivered five strong in his start, the Beacons picked up their second hit of the game to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Scully then turned the ball over to Jenkins, who was able to escape the only real Beacons scoring threat of the day (runner on third with one out) via back-to-back strikeouts of the one and two hitters in the Beacons' order, stranding the runner in scoring position.

From there, Jenkins retired nine straight Beacons to close out the win in dominant fashion.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls advance to 13-8 in the all-time series against the Beacons.
  • Scully made the first start of his career in his 34th career appearance.
  • Jenkins recorded the first save of his career.
  • Stephenson and Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.) registered multi-hit games.
  • Stephenson and MacDougall each picked up two stolen bases in the contest. Stephenson now has seven on the season, while MacDougall leads the team with 17.
  • Season-low run output for both teams.
