BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 3/3 Endicott baseball team swept Wentworth, 9-2 and 11-1 (7 Inn.), in Saturday afternoon's Conference Of New England (CNE) action from North Field.
GAME ONE: ENDICOTT 9, WENTWORTH 2
WP (10-1): Charlie Hale (Brookline, N.H.) — 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
LP (3-1): Cooper Smith (Burlington, Vt.) — 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
The Gulls scored runs in the second (1), third (3), fourth (2), and eighth (3) innings to down the Leopards 9-2 in game one.
TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) got the Gulls on the board with an RBI walk in the second, and then AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added on with a two-run single in the third.
After a Liponis RBI hit-by-pitch made it 4-0, Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.) broke things wide open with a two-run shot to left in the fourth.
The Leopards broke the shutout after they scratched across a run in the fifth and one in the seventh, but Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) iced the game with a three-run inside the park homer in the bottom of the eighth to put the Gulls up with a commanding 9-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) closed out the game with a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to put a bow on game one.
GAME TWO: ENDICOTT 11, WENTWORTH 1 (7 INN.)
WP (8-0): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
LP (4-5): Nigel Cross (Worcester, Mass.) — 4.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
An early Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) first inning solo blast put the Gulls up 1-0, but the Leopards knotted the score in the top of the second.
The Gulls reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the second thanks to Liponis' sac fly to left, and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
Endicott added three in the fifth with RBI singles from MacDougall and Frammartino and an RBI double from Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.).
Then, a six-run seventh inning brought the game to a close via the 10-run mercy rule. Stephenson (two-run walk-off single), Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.), Bernardo, and Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) all recorded RBI base-knocks in the inning.
Scully turned in another strong start from the rubber, limiting the Leopards to just one run on five hits. Ben Gill (Sanford, Maine) replaced him and escaped a bases-loaded situation to turn in a scoreless seventh inning of relief.
