AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The No. 2/5 Endicott baseball team saw its seven game win streak come to an end after its 13-6 loss to Amherst on Sunday afternoon.
WP (1-0): E.J. Nevills (Westwood, Mass.) — 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
LP (0-1): Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.) — 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) led off the game with a long ball for the second time this week as part of a two-run first inning for the Gulls.
However, the Mammoths quickly responded with a three-run spot in the bottom half to claim a lead, and then made it a 5-2 game through two full innings.
The Blue and Green got a run back in the third on a Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) RBI base-knock, and then knotted things up at five in the top of the fourth thanks to James Benestad's (Northborough, Mass.) two-run single.
Unfortunately for the Gulls, the Mammoths' offense came to life and plated eight unanswered runs over the next several innings to go up 13-5.
With their last opportunity in the ninth, Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) drove in a run with an RBI single to left, but the Gulls were unable to add anything more, and a line drive double play eventually sealed the win for the Mammoths.
