No. 5/6 Baseball Handles Southern Maine, 12-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 5/6 Endicott baseball team defeated Southern Maine, 12-2, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action from North Field.

WP (3-0): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) – 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (0-1): Sam Calder (Monmouth, Maine) – 1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

The Gulls bounced on the Huskies for a quick four runs in the first inning, and padded their early lead with run support in the second, third, sixth, and eighth frames.

Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) kickstarted the Gulls offense with a two-run double to center in the first, scoring Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) and Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.).

TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) and John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) drove in runs later in the inning with a sac fly and an RBI double, respectively.

Later, in the sixth inning, Endicott buried Southern Maine with a four-run bottom of the sixth. Mulready and Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) each tallied RBI base-knocks in the frame.

Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) made his fourth start of the season and went 3.1 IP, allowing just one earned run and fanning four along the way.

Scully replaced him and tossed a nearly perfect 3.2 IP (1 H allowed), before he was relieved by Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K). Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) came on to close things out and tossed a one-two-three ninth (1 K) to seal the fifth straight win for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls have won seven straight against the Huskies, dating back to 3/30/22.
  • The Huskies committed seven errors in the contest.
  • Endicott has won by at least nine runs in each of their last five wins.
  • Since moving to the nine-hole in the Gulls' lineup on 3/20 (last five games), Wladkowski is a scorching 8-for-14 at the plate (.571 AVG / .682 OBP / 1.214 SLG) with 11 RBI's, two home runs, three doubles, and three walks. 
  • Eight of nine Endicott starters recorded a hit in the contest.

No. 5/6 Endicott (13-3) welcomes Suffolk next Tuesday at 3:30 PM. Southern Maine (4-10) welcomes UMass.-Dartmouth this Saturday for a doubleheader (12/3 PM).
