WINTER HAVEN Fla. — The No. 4/4 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team was defeated by No. 7/7 Denison, 11-3, on Wednesday afternoon in the RussMatt Tournament.
WP (2-0): Michael Gray (Lake Forest, Ill.) — 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
LP (0-1): Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) — 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
The Gulls found themselves down 9-0 after just four-and-a-half innings, and were unable to make up ground on the Big Red in the top-10 ranked matchup.
Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) and Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) drilled back-to-back homers in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Gulls a bit closer (9-3 deficit), but that was the extent of the scoring for the Blue and Green on the afternoon.
Jake Harmony (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ben Gill (Sanford, Maine) combined to go 4.0 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run between the two of them (Gill: 1 IP, 2K's, 0 ER | Harmony: 3.0 IP, 1 K, 1 ER).
Grady Vanidestine (Brewer, Maine) and Pat Hart (Norfolk, Mass.) also saw action out of the 'pen for the Gulls in the loss.
From the batter's box, Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.), TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine), and Stephenson each logged multi-hit games.
