No. 4/5 Baseball Takes Care Of MIT, 9-5

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 4/5 Endicott baseball team topped MIT, 9-5, on Thursday afternoon at North Field.

WP (3-0): Ben Gill (Sanford, Maine) — 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
LP (3-3): Chase Rubin (Arlington, Va.) — 2.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
SV (1): Derek Roberts (Wayland, Mass.) — 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

After MIT jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first, the Gulls responded with a three-spot of their own in the bottom half. Zach Stephenson (Mansfield, Mass.) and Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) kicked things off with back-to-back singles and later came around to score thanks to a sac fly from Cade Bernardo (Glenmont, N.Y.) and an RBI single from John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.). Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) also scored in the frame after a wild pitch brought him home.

Then, in the bottom of the third, the Gulls capitalized on the Engineers' sloppy defense for a five-run frame, grabbing a comfortable 8-3 lead.

Bernardo highlighted the action with an RBI base-knock through the left side of the infield. TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) also drove in a run on a sac fly to center, and AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in a run with his ground ball to short.

With the game in control, the bullpen once again chipped in a great effort for the Gulls.

Endicott relievers Gill, Grady Vanidestine (Brewer, Maine), Colby Correia (Fairhaven, Mass.), Aaron Blinn (Mansfield, Mass.), Pat Hart (Norfolk, Mass.) and Roberts combined to toss six innings, allowing just two earned runs to lock up the victory.

  • Endicott moves to 19-6 in the all-time series with the Engineers (six straight wins).
