FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Both teams rank in the top eight for runs scored throughout Division III this season. Endicott ranks first with 509 total runs, while CMS ranks eighth with 445 runs scored.
- The Gulls won the Bridgewater Regional in three consecutive games with wins over Bridgewater State (5-2) and back-to-back victories over No. 19/24 Concordia (Texas) (11-0; 7-2).
- The Stags won the Wisconsin La Crosse Regional despite dropping their second game of the weekend to the host team Wisconsin La Crosse. They downed Buena Vista 23-3 before falling to UW La Crosse (8-6) in their next game. They then once again beat Buena Vista convincingly, 22-8, to clinch a spot in the Regional final. They pulled off a stunner by knocking off previously unbeaten La Crosse in back-to-back games on Sunday (11-2; 6-2) to send themselves through to the Super Regional round.
- Claremont is led by sluggers Andrew Mazzone (Belmont, Mass.) and Alex Henderson (Mercer Island, Wash.). Each of them have cranked 17 homers this season (T-4th in Division III). Henderson hit nine round-trippers in the Regional round alone. Mazzone also leads Division III with a batting average of .511. He is the only student-athlete across all NCAA Divisions batting over .500 this season, and one of only two slugging 1.000.
- Meanwhile, the Gulls are led by their dominant pitching staff (fourth in ERA across Division III with a 3.07) and their deep lineup (509 runs are most in Division III; .348 team batting average ranks third in DIII). In the Bridgewater Regional, Charlie Hale (Brookline, N.H.), Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) and John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) each turned in 6+ IP in their starts, highlighted by Scully's complete-game two-hit shutout performance against No. 19/24 Concordia (Texas) in game two.
