BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's volleyball team defeated Emerson, 3-2, by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 16-25, and 15-11 on Friday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Tonight's match featured 28 ties (6-9-10-0-3) and 13 lead changes (3-4-4-0-2) before all was said and done.
Hadley Helenbrook (Atlanta, Ga.) led the way for the Gulls with 25 kills to go with a team-high 16 digs. The sophomore also recorded a match-high six service aces.
Hannah Maguire (San Jose, Calif.) facilitated the offense to the tune of 42 assists and 13 digs.
Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) stymied the Lyons' attack with 15 digs on the back line, as Amelia Beigel (Amherst, Mass.) was the fourth Gull with double-digit digs as the senior added 12. Across the two teams, eight student-athletes recorded 10 or more digs in the match.
In the fifth set, Endicott was behind 5-4 and rallied behind two service aces from Ruel and a putaway from Ava Grace Dresback (Pawcatuck, Conn.) to take a 7-5 lead and force an Emerson timeout.
Coming out of the timeout, two errors by the Lions, a kill by Emerson, and a kill from Stephanie Moreau (Methuen, Mass.) made it 10-6 and caused the second Emerson timeout.
Out of the break, Helenbrook buried four kills (12-7, 13-9, 14-11, and 15-11) to help put the match away.
