Shinney, Dempsey Receive All-CCC Honors

CCC RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott women's basketball student-athletes Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) and Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) have earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason honors, as announced by the league office earlier today.

Shinney highlighted the duo with the CCC Rookie of the Year accolades. She also was named to the All-CCC Third Team for her impressive freshman season.

Meanwhile, Dempsey received All-CCC First Team honors for her outstanding junior year campaign.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR | ALL-CCC THIRD TEAM

Emma Shinney | Fr. | G | Wakefield, Mass.

Shinney is the fourth student-athlete in program history to receive Rookie of the Year honors, and the second recipient in the last three years (Dempsey, 2021-22).

The freshman guard posted averages of 10.8 points, 6.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game in 25 games played.

Her program record and conference-leading 6.6 assists placed her first among all freshmen in Division III, and third in Division III overall. Likewise, her 164 total assists ranked first among freshmen and sixth overall in the nation. That total also broke the program's single-season assist record previously held by Heidi Stevens '00 (161 | 1996-97).

Her 5.6 rebounds per game also led all guards in the CCC this season and ranked third on the team.

She proved herself as an all-around threat over the course of the season, notching four double-doubles and twice finishing just one assist shy of the program's first-ever triple-double.

In a 95-82 home victory over Salem State on December 9, 2023, the freshman floor general posted 22 points (9-14 FG), 10 rebounds, and nine assists, leading the Gulls in each of those categories that evening.

On January 31, 2024, she compiled 13 points (6-8 FG), 11 rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks in her 38 minutes play en route to the team's 101-74 win over Nichols.

In the regular season finale over Gordon, she notched a career-high 25 points (10-17 FG) and 13 assists along with seven rebounds and a block to guide the Gulls over the Fighting Scots.

The 13 assists set a new program record, surpassing Jen McBrien's '13 (Medfield, Mass.) previous record of 12 (Salve Regina, 11/28/12).

ALL-CCC FIRST TEAM

Sarah Dempsey | Jr. | F | Windham, N.H.

Dempsey represents Endicott as the lone Gull on the All-Conference First Team. This marks the 19th time in program history the Gulls have had a representative on the First Team.

The junior's steady interior scoring and rebounding presence set the tone for Endicott's success throughout the '23-24 season, as can be seen by her 12 20-plus point performances and nine double-doubles.

The Windham, N.H. native averaged 19.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.9 steals per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. The scoring, assist, and steal averages are all career-highs.

Additionally, her career-high 19.8 points per game and 496 total points each rank second in the conference and 26th/17th nationally, respectively.

The scoring average and scoring total figures both rank second-most in single-season program history (Melissa Tarpy '98 | 524 points, 21.8 PPG | 1996-97).

Her 8.4 rebounds per game and 210 total rebounds place fourth and sixth in the CCC, respectively.

On January 4, 2024, Dempsey etched her name into the history books as she recorded her 1,000th career point in a win over Curry amidst a 19-point performance. She became the 13th student-athlete in program history to score 1,000 points, and the third-fastest to do so.

Another record-setting performance came on January 31, when she broke her own single-game scoring record with an outburst of 39 points (16-19 FG, 7-7 FT) against Nichols. She also hauled down 15 rebounds and dished out five assists in the 101-74 victory.

She ends her junior season as the sixth all-time leading scorer in program history (1301) through 81 career games played.

The First Team selection marks her second career appearance on the list, and her third career All-Conference selection.
