Suffolk Holds Off Women’s Basketball, 82-76 (OT)

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's basketball team lost to Suffolk, 82-76, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine), and Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) all scored 20-plus points in the setback.

Dempsey finished with a team-high 22 points (10-19 FG, 2-3 FT), while Fleming and Nadeau both registered 21 points apiece (9-19 FG, 1-5 3PT, 2-3 FT | 9-22 FG, 3-10 3PT).

The duo of Dempsey and Fleming also collected 11 rebounds each to secure their seventh and third double-doubles of the season, respectively.

Trailing 69-65 with 3:10 to play in the fourth quarter, Endicott rallied back to tie the contest at 69-69 with a 4-0 spurt via Fleming (3 points, 2:48 layup, 69-67; 1:17 free throw, 69-69) and Dempsey (1 point, 69-68, 1:47 free throw).

Suffolk eventually answered with six seconds to play on a second-chance layup in traffic following an exchange of empty possessions from both teams.

The Gulls returned the favor moments later as Dempsey cleaned up a missed layup with a jumper from inside the top right corner of the paint as time expired to dramatically force overtime.

In the extra session, Suffolk scored on its first two possessions and never trailed the rest of the way despite Endicott coming within one point, 75-74 with 3:39 to play.
