Roger Williams Tops Women’s Basketball, 68-59

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to Roger Williams (RWU), 68-59, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) clash on Wednesday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) was the lone Gull in double figures with a game-high 19 points (7-12 FG, 4-6 3PT) and six rebounds. 

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) chipped in with nine points along with eight boards, while Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) supplied eight points and dished out five assists. 

The opening quarter featured a back-and-forth start, as the frame saw four ties and six lead changes.  

From there, the Hawks' advantage grew to as many as five points (33-28) before Endicott closed out the final 3:02 of the half on a 6-2 burst, highlighted by a Nadeau putback lay-in as time expired to cut the RWU lead to 35-34 at the break

Coming out of the locker room, Roger Williams notched an 11-2 scoring run to put some distance on the scoreboard at 46-36. The visitors did so by holding the Gulls to one field goal in the first six minutes of the frame.  

In the final stanza, the Hawks controlled the tempo and halted an Endicott comeback to get the road triumph.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Hawks snapped Endicott's eight-game win streak.
  • Endicott won eight straight for the first time since 2017-18.
  • The Gulls are 12-10 against the Hawks at MacDonald Gymnasium. 
  • Before tonight's matchup, Endicott held opponents to 25.1% from three-point territory, while Roger Williams clamped opponents to 25.3% from bonus distance. 
  • Fleming has snared seven or more boards in seven straight contests. She had nine this evening.
  • Both squads notched 32 points in the painted area.

Endicott (9-6, 5-3 CCC) takes on Wentworth on Saturday, January 20 at 12:00 PM. Roger Williams (11-5, 7-1 CCC) welcomes Suffolk on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
