Women's Basketball Triumphs Over Principia, 67-45

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Principia, 67-45, in its second contest of the Florida Sunshine Shootout on Friday afternoon.

Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) notched a career-high 21 points (9-17 FG, 3-10 3PT) paired with five rebounds and two assists in the win.

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) dished out a career-high 11 assists to go along with eight rebounds and three steals in the contest.

Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) recorded nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 3PT) and two rebounds in her 15 minutes of play, also finshing with a +14 in plus/minus.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) filled out the stat sheet for the Gulls with her five points (2-3 FG), five assists, three rebounds, three blocks, and two steals on the afternoon.

After a season-high 28 points on Wednesday, Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) followed up with a 14 point (6-10 FG, 2-3 FT), four rebound, four assist, and three steal showing.

The Gulls jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter thanks to some solid defensive pressure and efficient transition offense. Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus, Mass.) led the early charge with five points and three rebounds in the stanza, and also forced Principia into tough shots with her on-ball defensive presence.

After Principia cut the Endicott lead down to six with 5:44 remaining in the second quarter, the Gulls responded with a 6-0 run led by Nadeau and Konareski to stretch the lead out to 12 three minutes prior to half. They headed into the break with a seven point (28-21) advantage over the Panthers.

Principia opened the second-half on a 7-0 run, erasing the once 12 point Endicott lead. Konareski responded to the Panthers' run with an 8-0 individual run, jumpstarting the Endicott second-half offense. She notched 13 of the 17 total Endicott points in the third, helping the Gulls restore their 12 point lead (45-33) heading into the fourth.

The Blue and Green rode its third quarter momentum through the fourth, outscoring the Panthers 22-12 in the final period and finishing on an 11-0 run. Dempsey and Nadeau combined for 11 of the 22 Endicott points in the quarter, securing the third straight win for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Shinney's 11 assists place her tied for second-most assists in program single-game history.
  • Endicott outscored Principia 8-0 in fastbreak points.
  • The Gulls shot 46% (29-63) from the field as opposed to Principia's 23.4% (15-64).
  • The Blue and Green shot 6-18 (33.3%) from three-point territory while holding Principia to just 1-20 (5%) from three-point range.
  • Endicott's defense has limited opponents to an average of just 44 points and a combined 28% (32-128) shooting from the field over the last two contests.

Endicott (4-5) travels to Gordon College on Tuesday, January 2nd for a 5:30 PM tipoff. Principia (7-4) travels to Greenville University on Tuesday, and also tips off at 5:30 PM.
