Comeback Attempt Falls Short As Women's Basketball Falls To Roger Williams, 67-62

BRISTOL, R.I. — Despite a late fourth-quarter comeback attempt, the Endicott women's basketball team was defeated by Roger Williams, 67-62, in Tuesday evening Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action from Roger Williams Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

Reigning CCC Co-Player of the Week Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) led the Endicott effort with 25 points (11-20 FG, 1-2 3PT), four rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, as she posted 10 points (5-12 FG) to pair with her game-high 14 rebounds.

Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) accompanied Dempsey and Fleming as the only other Gull in double-figures with 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3PT).

Trailing by 11 at the half (40-29), the Gulls emerged from the break with a fresh dose of Dempsey to reinsert themselves in the game. The junior forward scored all but one of Endicott's third-quarter field goals, which included five shots from inside the arc and one from beyond. Fleming joined her in the third quarter scoring on the final Endicott possession, cutting the Gulls' deficit to nine (53-44) heading into the fourth.

To open the final quarter, the Gulls erupted for a 9-2 scoring run sparked by a Nadeau three-pointer, a Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.) layup, and two Nadeau deuces, shrinking the Hawks' lead down to a one-possession game with 7:23 to play.

From there, Roger Williams recorded a 6-0 run of its own to push the lead back to eight.

The two teams proceeded to trade baskets the rest of the way through, handing the Hawks a 67-62 victory as the final buzzer sounded.
