CCC TOURNAMENT: Softball Advances To Championship Round With 8-0 Win Over Hawks

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team defeated Roger Williams, 8-0, in six innings on Friday evening to secure its spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship Round.

WP (13-4): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (3-9): Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) – 1 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

The Gulls launched three homers in the contest to run away with the victory.

Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) roped a two-run shot down the left field line in the first, while Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) followed in the sixth with back-to-back solo bombs to walk it off.

Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) and Spencer also knocked in runs in the second (sac fly/single) to give Endicott a 4-0 advantage, at the time.

From there, Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) and Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) plated runs via a double and a single in the fourth, respectively, to account for the rest of the scoring.

In the circle, Couto took a perfect game into the fourth inning before a one-out single up the middle spoiled it. Couto was unfazed, however, as the sophomore right-hander did not allow another Hawk to reach base the rest of the way.
