Softball Sweeps UMaine-Farmington In Home Opener, 12-1 & 9-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team mercy-ruled UMaine-Farmington twice, 12-1 and 9-1, in non-conference action on Sunday evening.

GAME ONE: Endicott 12, UMaine-Farmington 1 (5 innings)

WP (4-2): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
LP (1-5): Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.) – 2 IP, 11 H, 12 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Endicott erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Highlighting the frame for the Gulls were Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) and Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.).

Nowicki launched a grand slam to center field to make it 8-0 (first career homer), while Comtois blasted a two-run shot off the rocks in right center to cap the 10-run outburst (sixth career HR).

Nowicki also added some insurance runs onto the scoreboard in the second via a two-run single to center, which upped her RBI total to six in the opening game (career-high).

Overall, four student-athletes produced multi-hit games in the victory including Nowicki, Comtois, Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.), and Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.).

GAME TWO: Endicott 9, UMaine-Farmington 1 (5 innings)

WP (3-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
LP (0-2): Maddie Souza (Mashpee, Mass.) – 3 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Much like game one, the Gulls put up a crooked number in the first inning and rode that momentum the rest of the way.

Comtois got Endicott going in the first with a two-run homer to left center. Misiaszek also mashed an RBI triple to right center and Taylor Chelak (Westborough, Mass.) rounded out the scoring via a run-producing groundout to second for a 4-0 advantage on the scoreboard.

From there, Watts and Couto highlighted the Gulls.

Watts walloped two homers – a two-run shot in the second and a solo dinger in the fourth – while Couto blasted a solo homer over the center field trees for Endicott's final run of the doubleheader.
