Hanchuk Spins A No-Hitter As Gulls Sweep Curry, 8-0 & 9-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott junior pitcher Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) tossed a no-hitter against Curry on Sunday afternoon to highlight the Gulls' doubleheader sweep over the Colonels. The Gulls took game one, 8-0 (6 inn.), before taking the nightcap, 9-1 (5 inn.).

GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Curry 0 (6 inn.)

WP (8-2): Hanchuk – 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 12 K
LP (2-8): Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) – 5 2/3 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Hanchuk struck out at least two batters in every inning but the fifth to record the first no-hitter of her collegiate career.

Hanchuk needed just 91 pitches (60 strikes, .659, unofficially) to accomplish the feat. Despite walking two and hitting two more, Hanchuk only allowed two runners to reach scoring position in the entire game (2nd/3rd).

Offensively, Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) drove in a career-high five RBI via a solo blast in the fourth, and a pair of two-run doubles in the fifth and sixth, respectively. Comtois' last double gave the Gulls the walk-off win.

Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) and Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) also knocked in runs in the fifth (double) and sixth (single) innings.

GAME TWO: Endicott 9, Curry 1 (5 inn.)

WP (6-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
LP (1-6): Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.) – 4 1/3 IP, 9 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

Comtois (4-for-4, two runs, two RBI) and Riley Gamache (Litchfield, N.H.) did most of the damage for the Gulls in game two.

Endicott took a 4-0 lead as Comtois (RBI single) and Gamache (two-run single) bookended the scoring in the frame.

From there, Gamache had an infield RBI single in the third (5-1), while Comtois walked it off again in game two with a bases loaded single to third base.

Meanwhile, Couto was terrific out of the pen as the sophomore righty only allowed one runner to reach scoring position over her four innings of work.

Her first inning featured a no-out, two-runners on (1st/2nd) scenario, but Couto registered three straight strikeouts (one looking) to avoid further damage for the Gulls.

The remainder of Couto's outing included a minimal threat in the third, and 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth, respectively, to wrap up the sweep.
