Softball Sweeps Roger Williams, 8-0 (5 inn.) & 7-0

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott softball team defeated Roger Williams, 8-0 (5 inn.) and 7-0, in conference action on Sunday evening at Paolino Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Roger Williams 0 (5 inn.)

WP (6-2): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K
LP (0-6): Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) – 3 1/3 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Hanchuk only allowed two runners to reach second base en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls offensively with a 4-for-4 (one run, two RBI) showing out of the two-hole.

Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) and Taylor Chelak (Westborough, Mass.) also drove in one run apiece.

As a team, Endicott took advantage of four miscues by the Hawks to come away with the game one victory.

GAME TWO: Endicott 7, Roger Williams 0

WP (5-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
LP (1-4): Nicole Corey (Dighton, Mass.) – 1 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Couto earned the win in relief after entering the game for Molly O'Neill (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the fourth with runners on first and second and no outs.

Despite hitting the first batter she faced, Couto got out of the bases loaded jam with a strikeout swinging, and back-to-back fly outs (left field, center field).

Couto recorded two straight 1-2-3 frames from that point on before working around a second and third two-out situation in the seventh.

Offensively, the Gulls notched four extra-base hits, all of which produced runs.

Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) and Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) both hit solo homers in the first (1-0, 2-0), while Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) and Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.) both had RBI doubles in the second and third, respectively.
