Softball Takes Two From Wentworth, 9-1 & 5-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept Wentworth, 9-1 (5 inn.) and 5-0, in conference action on Sunday evening at Carr Diamond.

GAME ONE: Endicott 9, Wentworth 1 (5 inn.)

WP (14-4): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
LP (8-7): Kayla DeMedeiros (South Dartmouth, Mass.) – 4 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

The Gulls scored three in the first and sixth more in the fifth to run away with the victory.

Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) highlighted the offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate alongside one run scored and three RBI from the cleanup spot.


GAME TWO: Endicott 5, Wentworth 0

WP (11-4): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K
LP (7-6): Erin Hancock (Holden, Mass.) – 7 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Couto took a no-hitter into the seventh inning to lead Endicott to the sweep.

Couto's no-hit bid was broken up by a leadoff single to center, but the sophomore righty was unfazed as she spun a 4-6-3 double play ball on the next batter. Couto finished off the complete-game shutout in the next at-bat with a pop up to second base.

Overall, Couto only faced two batters over the minimum and registered four 1-2-3 frames (1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th).

Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.), Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.), Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.), and Marotto all drove in runs to pace the offense.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • The Gulls are 43-0-1 all-time against Wentworth.
  • Endicott has won four in a row.
  • Marotto produced two multi-hit games on the day pushing her total to 10 on the season (second on the team).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (25-11, 15-3 CCC) has earned the number one seed in this year's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament. The Gulls will host No. 8 Roger Williams in game one of the tournament on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 AM.

Wentworth (21-15, 9-9 CCC) also qualified for the tournament as the number five seed and will take on No. 4 Suffolk at Endicott next Wednesday at 12:15 PM.
