Softball Handles Crosstown Rival Gordon In CCC Opener, 10-0 & 4-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept Gordon College, 10-0 (5 inn.) and 4-2, in conference action on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Endicott 10, Gordon 0 (5 innings)

WP (5-2): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K

LP (4-3): Carleigh Schievink (Charlestown, Mass.) – 1.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

The Gulls flew out to an early three-run lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) started the scoring by going yard to right center to highlight the frame.

From there, the Gulls tacked on two more (5-0) before Taylor Chelak (Westborough, Mass.) crushed a homer to center field to give Endicott a 6-0 advantage after three innings.

In the fourth, a Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) single up the middle made it 7-0, while Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) put the mercy rule into effect by smashing a three-run bomb to right-center for a 10-lead.

Overall, eight student-athletes recorded at least one hit in the win.

GAME TWO: Endicott 4, Gordon 2

WP (4-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

LP (0-2): Mara Little (Mashpee, Mass.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, Chelak roped a two-run single down the left field line to help the Gulls complete the sweep.

Couto took care of the rest as the sophomore hurler did not allow a single runner to reach scoring position the rest of the way.
