Hanchuk Tosses A No-No As Gulls Sweep Salem State, 8-0 & 9-0

Hanchuk Tosses A No-No As Gulls Sweep Salem State, 8-0 & 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott junior pitcher Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) tossed her second career no-hitter against Salem State on Wednesday afternoon to highlight the Gulls' doubleheader sweep. Endicott took game one by an 8-0 (6 inn.) score and game two by a 9-0 score (5 inn.).

GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Salem State 0 (6 inn.)

WP (11-2): Hanchuk – 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K
LP (4-13): Emily Carter (Warwick, R.I.) – 5 2/3 IP, 14 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Hanchuk nearly threw her first collegiate perfect game but a wild pitch on a swinging strikeout in the top of the second spelled the difference between perfection and the no-hitter.

Hanchuk has spun two no-hitters this season, both in 8-0 wins that went six innings each (Curry, 4/10/22).

Offensively, Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) and Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) led the Gulls with three RBI apiece.

GAME TWO: Endicott 9, Salem State 0 (5 inn.)

WP (8-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
LP (2-8): Gracie Hogan (Blackstone, Mass.) – 4 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Couto threw three 1-2-3 innings and struck out the side once in the second en route to the sweep.

Meanwhile, Molly O'Neill (Shrewsbury, Mass.) pitched a cleaned fifth inning via a groundout (4-3), strikeout swinging, and a pop up to short.

Watts also knocked in two more runs in the nightcap, while Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) and Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) drove in a pair as well.
