Hanchuk Breaks Single-Game Strikeout Record In Sweep Of Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. –  Endicott junior pitcher Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) broke the school record for strikeouts in a game (16) versus Nichols on Saturday afternoon to highlight the Gulls' doubleheader sweep. Endicott took game one by a 5-1 score and game two by a 10-0 score (5 inn.).

GAME ONE: Endicott 5, Nichols 1

WP (13-4): Hanchuk – 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 16 K
LP (4-13): Candice Nelson (Oxford, Mass.) – 4 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

Hanchuk was dominant in the win for the Gulls, punching out 16 of the 27 batters she faced on the afternoon. 

The previous program record for strikeouts in a single-game was 15, which Endicott Hall of Famer Robyn Savitske Crosby '07 accomplished twice during her storied career (4/17/05, 3/20/06).

Offensively, Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) batted in three runs for the Blue and Green, while Taylor Chelak (Westborough, Mass.) and Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) registered an RBI apiece to round out the list of individual highlights for the Gulls in game one. 


GAME TWO: Endicott 10, Nichols 0

WP (10-4): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K
LP (4-5) Chelsea Indyk (Easthampton, Mass.) – 2 2/3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Couto's efforts in the circle allowed Endicott to capture its ninth shutout this season.

Meanwhile, Misiaszek knocked in four more runs in the nightcap, while Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) and Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) drove in a pair as well to secure the sweep.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES 

  • The Gulls are 41-2 in the all-time series over Nichols. 
  • Endicott has won its last nine over Nichols dating back to 2016. 
  • The Blue and Green improved to 6-4 away from The Nest this season.
