NEWPORT, R.I. – The Endicott softball team split a pair of conference games against Salve Regina, 0-1 (8 inn.) and 8-1, on Saturday evening at Toppa Field.
GAME ONE: Salve Regina 1, Endicott 0 (8 inn.)
WP (10-8): Alex Kelly (East Meadow, N.Y.) – 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K
LP (11-3): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 7 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K
Salve Regina used a sacrifice bunt and a single to left center in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the game one walk-off win.
Both teams only mustered three hits apiece in the pitcher's duel.
GAME TWO: Endicott 8, Salve Regina 1
WP (9-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
LP (0-3): Maddy Fluke (Douglas, Mass.) – 3 1/3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) broke open a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with a two-run triple and the Gulls never looked back.
Riley Gamache (Litchfield, N.H.) highlighted the offense with a 2-for-4, two RBI, one run scored performance.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Couto has struck out seven or more batters six times this season.
- Hanchuk recorded her fourth double-digit strikeout game.
- The Gulls are 38-14 all-time against Salve Regina.

Endicott (20-8, 10-2 CCC) hosts Suffolk on Sunday, April 24 at 12/2 PM. Sunday's games will serve as Senior Day for the Gulls. Salve Regina (12-19, 4-8 CCC) visits Curry tomorrow at 12/2 PM.
