Endicott started the Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs with a bang today winning in dramatic fashion. The first game of the day saw Salve Regina defeat Wentworth 4-3 in 12 innings. This meant Endicott would play Salve Regina immediately following that game.
The game was a pitchers duel as well as a defensive battle. Robyn Savitske took the mound and allowed only 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 10 batters in route to her 10th shutout of the season. Savitske pitched all 10 innings of the game improving to 12-3 overall.
The game was a see-saw event where the two teams went back and forth with nothing to show for it. Salve left 10 runners on base while Endicott only allowed 6 runners to reach all game. The game went deep into extra innings, when in the top of the 10th, Salve threatened. Ali Morrissey was placed on 2nd base, and advanced to third on an Elizabeth Kenney single. The next play was by far the most exciting play the Gulls have had all season. Stephanie Foley hit a ball deep in the hole at shortstop. Elyse Colby dived and made a tremendous stop and threw out Morrissey from her knees trying to take home and the lead. Megan Young blocked the plate, tagging Morrissey for the 2nd out of the inning and then fired down to second where Nicole Reather made a great play tagging out Foley for the 3rd out.
The Gulls used this momentum in their half of the 10th inning. Kacy Beloin was placed at second base and advanced to third on a Laura Schack single. Katie Doherty then stepped to the plate and executed the suicide squeeze play perfect. The Gulls won 1-0 in 10 innings.
The win advances them along in the CCC tourney to play Curry College at Endicott's Tupper Field tomorrow at 5pm.
