The Gulls won their second game of the spring today beating Wisconsin-Plattville 4-1 at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Florida. Nicole Reather was outstanding on the mound mixing an array of pitches in route to the win. Reather made only one mistake on the mound serving up a homerun to Wendi Siedschlag in the fourth inning. Other than that she was near perfect. Reather scattered only two hits and one earned run over 7 innings. She also added 5 strikeouts and allowed only one runner to advance past first base.
The scoring for the Gulls started in the first inning when Laura Schack struck out but reached on an error by the catcher. Schack advanced to second on Reather's sacrifice bunt and later scored on an RBI single by Megan Huckins. Megan Young then stepped up and hit a single advancing Huckins to third. Huckins scored on a sacrifice fly by Jennilee Danielson.
In the third, Huckins would reach base once again on a base on balls. Young was next to bat and hit a ball down the line to the Plattville third baseman. The ball was overthrown and Huckins and Young were both waved home. This put the Gulls up 4-0.
Reather did not do it all on her own the defense was fantastic. Katie Doherty did a nice job starting her first game at shortstop. Also standing out were Young behind the plate and Danielson in centerfield.
