Game 2
Now tied for first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference after a big win in the first game, it was a chance to see if the Gulls could pull into the lead by themselves. The game was a close one watching Endicott pull off a late inning victory 3-0.
The game was scoreless until the 6th inning, when Megan Young walked and Elyse Colby singled her to second. With two runners on and only 1 out, Megan Huckins drove a screamer down the right field line. As Huckins was pulling into third base with a triple, the throw got by the cutoff and Huckins dashed for home scoring the third and final run of the game.
Pitching and defense were a big reason the Gulls won the game. Nicole Reather improved to 9-3, scattering 6 hits and striking out 5 while walking none. In the field, Ashley Labella had 3 putouts and 2 assists. Also playing well defensively were Catcher Megan Young and outfielders Kirstin Wing, Laura Schack, Jennilee Danielson and Laura Mangini.
The win improves the Gulls to 18-7-1 (13-1 CCC) and gives them the lead in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott plays next tomorrow versus Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. Game time is 12pm.
