The second game saw senior Laura Mangini take the mound to try and earn a split with the Beavers. Mangini lasted 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. She then gave way to reliever Robyn Savitske who pitched 1 1/2 innings, allowing no runs, 2 hits and added 2 strikeouts.
The Beavers scored two runs in the first two innings, making the score 2-0. In the third, Darcy Lantz singled, Meghan Gaskell doubled and Colleen Kelly reached on an error loading the bases. Kara Courtney singled in both Lantz and Gaskell. Jill Paine then singled in Kelly, making the score 5-0 after 3 innings.
The Gulls would gain one back in the 5th, when Kacy Beloin walked; Katie Doherty and Laura Schack followed it with singles, loading the bases. Megan Huckins then got a base hit knocking home Beloin. The Gulls did strand 3 and got out of the inning with a 4 run deficit.
In the 7th, Ashley Labella started the inning off with a single and two batters later Megan Young singled as well. With runners now on 1st and 2nd, a passed ball allowed the runners to advance. Jennilee Danielson then singled home Labella and on an error by the first baseman, Young would score. With Danielson on third, a passed ball by relief pitcher Gaskell would allow her to score, cutting the margin to one. The rally was too little too late and the Gulls fell 5-4.
The Gulls will play a doubleheader at Gordon College tomorrow at 1pm.
