2022 AVCA DEMONSTRATOR SCHOLARSHIP RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Endicott women's volleyball graduate student Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) recently received the sixth American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) accolade of her career as she earned All-America Honorable Mention honors for the 2022 season. In addition, McAvoy has been selected to receive an AVCA Demonstrator Scholarship at the 2022 AVCA Convention, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to do so.

The Coventry, Conn. native's Honorable Mention nod adds to her impressive resume that includes 2022 AVCA All-Region, 2021 AVCA All-America Third Team, 2021 AVCA All-Region, 2019 AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention, and 2018 AVCA Region Rookie of the Year. McAvoy becomes the first student-athlete in program history to receive six AVCA honors, and the first to earn an AVCA accolade in four separate seasons. The middle helped guide the Gulls to the program's third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title and NCAA DIII Tournament appearance this season, and was selected to the All-CCC First Team for the second straight season. McAvoy's attack percentage of .310 led the team, as did her 91 total blocks and .92 blocks/set. Her 280.5 points, 2.8 points/set, 36 aces, and .36 aces/set were all good for second on the team, while her 193 kills and 1.95 kills/set were good for fourth.

As a graduate student, McAvoy took advantage of the NCAA's CoVID-19 waiver and is utilizing Endicott's accelerated 5th Year MBA program to attain her master's degree. Her passion for the sport of volleyball remains her focus as she aims to pursue a career coaching at the collegiate level. As a springboard to that career, McAvoy has been selected by the AVCA to be one of 30 total student-athletes to receive the Student-Athlete Demonstrator Scholarship. Recipients have been selected to serve as demonstrators for on-court education sessions at the 2022 AVCA Convention in Omaha, Nebraska December 14-17. The graduate student will be joined by student-athletes from various institutions that include the University of Minnesota, the University of Iowa, the University of North Carolina, Rice, Butler, Elon and others.
