Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Western New England, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's volleyball team defeated Western New England, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 21-25 in conference action on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls' attack with a match-high 17 kills on 35 swings (.343). 

Gilbert is now 10 kills away from 1,000 in her career.

Sophie Breitenbach (Newport, R.I.) also chipped in with eight putaways (.353), while Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) and Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) facilitated the offense with 19 and 14 assists, respectively.

On the defensive end, Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) posted a match-high 11 digs and went 16-for-17 on serve-receive (.941).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 20-5 all-time against Western New England.
  • The Gulls have won eight straight versus the Golden Bears dating back to 11/15/14.
  • Tonight's match featured eight ties (0-4-4) and six lead changes (0-2-4).
  • Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) held serve for seven straight points to start the first set.
  • Tecun finished the match with a season-high four service aces, one assist, seven digs, and a 14-for-16 performance on serve-receive (.875).
  • Eight student-athletes have reached the 1,000-kill plateau since the program's inception in 1993.
  • Gilbert had at least five kills in every set (match-high 7 in set two).

Endicott (15-6, 6-0 CCC) travels to Emerson on Thursday, October 20 at 7 PM. Western New England (14-10, 2-4 CCC) hosts Keene State this Thursday at 7 PM.
