Endicott Sweeps WPI 3-0 to Start 2022 Season

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 sweep of WPI on Thursday night to open the 2022 campaign, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-15. 

The Gulls posted a .278 average for the match, totaling 34 kills and just nine errors on 90 swings. Endicott's defensive efforts held the visitors to a .020 average, as the Engineers posted 28 kills and 26 errors on 100 attempts. Of the 26 errors for WPI, 13 were caused via blocks by the Gulls. 

Graduate students Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) combined to post 15 kills and just two errors on 37 attempts (.351) to lead the defensive efforts. Gilbert posted an 8-1-22 (.318) line to go with eight digs and two solo blocks, while McAvoy posted a 7-1-15 (.400) line offensively to go with two aces and a block assist.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Kelsey Sanborn (Londonderry, N.H.) and Sophie Breitenbach (Newport, R.I.) impressed offensively in their collegiate debuts, recording eight kills and five kills, respectfully, while setter Ella Koelb () posted 11 assists and five digs.
  • Fellow freshman Stephanie Moreau (Methuen, Mass.) recorded a match-high six blocks in her collegiate debut, while Breitenbach chipped in with five of her own.
  • Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) led the Gulls with 13 assists, while Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with a team-best 10 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-0) will play host to Simmons on Wednesday at 7:00 PM, while WPI (0-1) will play host to Husson and SUNY Delhi in a tri-match on Saturday.
