Endicott Celebrates Senior Class with 3-1 Wins over No. 18 Babson & Brandeis

The Endicott women's volleyball seniors pose nicely with their families as part of their Senior Day celebration in which they dominated the competition. No Cap.

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team celebrated its senior class of Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.)Emily Powell (Nassau, N.Y.)Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) and Alexandra Tecun (Hawthorne, Calif.) by posting 3-1 wins over Brandeis and nationally-ranked No. 18 Babson. The wins elevate Endicott to 13-4 overall, and 4-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, while Brandeis, who also fell to Babson 3-1, falls to 9-9, and Babson falls to 17-2.

For the senior class, McGrath posted 26 assists and five digs against Brandeis before finishing with 16 and four in the 3-1 over Babson. Powell earned the start against Brandeis and posted two kills in the win, while Schueler posted eight kills against Brandeis and matched with another eight against Babson. Tecun finished the match against Brandeis with 12 digs and an ace, before posting six digs, an ace and a kill in the win over Babson.

Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) was dominant on the pin, posting a 20 kill, 15 dig effort in the win over the Judges, and 14 kills, 11 digs in the nightcap. Gilbert hit .280 (20-6-50) in the opener before finishing with a .278 (14-4-36) effort against the Beavers. Middle Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) hit a team-high .375 (min. 10 attempts) after posting a 7-1-16 line against Brandeis, and followed that up with a 6-2-10 (.400) effort against Babson, that included tying for the match-high with five blocks.

Setter Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) finished the day with 46 assists and 16 digs after recording a 27-8 performance against Brandeis and a 19-8 effort against Babson. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Endicott has now extended its win streak to eight against Brandeis as Endicott is now 10-14 all-time against the Judges, while the Gulls and Beavers have split the all-time series 8-8, with the Gulls taking two of the last three.
  • Megan Murphy (Danvers, Mass.) stepped up big for the Gulls, finishing with a 4-0-9 (.444) line against Brandeis, and three key blocks against Babson.
  • Freshmen Sophie Breitenbach (Newport, R.I.) and Kelsey Sanborn (Londonderry, N.H.) each played a big role on the day, with Breitenbach hitting a match-high .462 (7-1-13) against Babson, and Sanborn posting 10 kills in the win over Brandeis.
  • Libero Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) posted two match-high performances with 24 digs in the opening win, before closing with 19 in the win over Babson.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (13-4, 4-0 CCC), gets back to CCC play on Tuesday night when the team travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England.
