Endicott Falls to No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to the top-ranked team in the country in No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday evening in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational by a 3-0 final. The set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-18.

It was the first setback of the season for the Gulls who had gotten off to a 5-0 start prior to Friday's match. The Athenas now improve to 9-0 with the victory.

Leading Endicott in the match were Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) and Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.), who finished with eight and six kills, respectively. Gilbert's team-leading eight kills came with just four errors on 14 attempts as the graduate student hit .286 to go with her team-leading 10 digs. Meanwhile, Schueler hit a team-best .312 after posting six kills and just one error on 16 swings. 

Libero Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with eight digs in the setback, while Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) and Sophie Breitenbach (Newport, R.I.) tied for the team lead with three blocks each.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This was the first meeting between the two programs, and the first time Endicott has taken on the AVCA No. 1 team.
  • Setter Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) finished with 12 assists and two digs in the 6-2 offense.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls will take on Whittier and the hosts, California Lutheran, at 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, respectively, on Saturday afternoon.
