BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's soccer team knocked off Nichols, 2-0, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) contest at Hempstead Stadium.
Prior to the game, seniors Rosalina Caliri (East Greenwich, R.I.), Madison English (Ashland, Mass.), Emily Grote (Glastonbury, Conn.), Elizabeth Healy (Plymouth, Mass.), Morgan Hubert (Southington, Conn.), Grace Jewett (Millis, Mass.), Carly Matthews (Suffield, Conn.), and Riley Rischitelli (North Brookfield, Mass.) were honored for their contributions to the Endicott women's soccer program.
Michelle Donahue (Melrose, Mass) gave the Gulls an early advantage just 11 minutes in. The junior defender received the ball off a short corner played by Ella Morgan (Salem, Mass.) and proceeded to unleash a shot into the top-right corner to give Endicott the 1-0 lead.
Endicott continued to mount the pressure on the Nichols defense, outshooting the visitors 14-3 in the first 45 minutes of play. However, the Gulls were not able to find an insurance tally as the score remained 1-0 entering the halftime break.
The Blue and Green began the second half right where they left off in the first, dominating possession and continuing to pepper the net with shots.
Morgan added a goal to her stat line in the 69th minute. She dispossessed a Nichols defender, drove to just outside the top of the box, and fired a shot into the bottom-left corner to extend the Endicott lead.
The Gulls backline was a strong force throughout the game, limiting the Bison to just four shots and keeping them off the scoreboard. The scoreline went unchanged for the final 20 minutes, ending 2-0 as the final whistle sounded.
Caliri returned to action for the first time since September 21 when she suffered a concussion at Hartford. She picked up two saves in her return, and was replaced with 14 minutes remaining by Grote, who saw her first action of the season in net.
