BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's soccer team fell to Western New England, 1-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
Michelle Donahue (Melrose, Mass.) preserved the deadlock four minutes into the game after she appeared from out of nowhere to save a potential goal off the back line.
After a back-and-forth affair for the rest of the first half, the visiting Golden Bears entered the break leading the shot tally, 5-2.
Endicott came out firing in the second half, piling on the chances in the first 15 minutes, but the Gulls were unable to find the back of the net. The stretch was highlighted by a Callie Neils (Brentwood, N.H.) volley off a corner, which was saved by the WNE keeper.
The visitors eventually found the breakthrough tally late in the 83rd minute on a long-distance shot that caromed off the crossbar and into the goal.
In the final minutes, the Blue and Green threw everything forward, outshooting the Golden Bears 9-3 in the second half. However, the Western New England defense held strong until the final buzzer sounded.
Endicott goalkeeper Samantha MacCormack (Danvers, Mass.) recorded four saves in the loss (4-2-1).
