Matthews Earns NEWISA All-New England Team Accolades

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott women's soccer senior defender Carly Matthews (Suffield, Conn.) has earned New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England First Team honors.

Matthews is the first student-athlete to claim NEWISA All-New England Team accolades since 2018.

This past season, the Gulls' senior captain and defender started in all 20 games.

Her efforts as the team's stopper guided Endicott to the second-ranked defense in the Conference of New England (CNE) at 0.85 goals allowed per game (17 goals allowed total).

Additionally, Matthews proved herself to be a model of consistency on the backline, having played the full 90 minutes in all but one game for the Blue and Green this year (Wentworth, 10/5/24, 3-0 W, 86 minutes played).

This is her second All-Region honor this season, as the senior claimed United Soccer Coaches All-Region II Second Team accolades in December.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott posted a 10-6-4 overall record and secured the fifth seed in the CNE Tournament. The Gulls won their first round matchup at WNE, 2-0, but fell to Hartford in the CNE Semifinals on November 5, consequently ending their season.

The 10-win season was the fourth multi-digit win performance in the past five seasons for the Blue and Green.
