BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's soccer team defeated Lasell College, 1-0, in Saturday afternoon's season opener at Hempstead Stadium.
The Gulls dominated offensive play throughout the matchup, setting up several great scoring chances to jump out on top. However, the Lasers' defense refused to back down and stood tall against the challenge of Endicott's aggressive offensive attack.
After a scoreless 77 minutes, Eliza Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) broke the deadlock as she scored from 25 yards out over the leap of Lasell's outstretched goalkeeper.
The goal was the junior's second career game-winner and fourth career goal.
Endicott outshot Lasell, 31-2 in the contest including a 16-0 shots on goal advantage. The Gulls also had 11 corners in the game compared to Lasell's 0.
Chloe Bauman (Southington, Conn.), Michelle Donahue (Melrose, Mass.), Carly Matthews (Suffield, Conn.) all anchored the Endicott back line, each playing the full 90 minutes. The defense didn't allow a shot from the Lasers until the 84th minute.
