INTERNSHIP INSIGHT: Kaylee Liberty Breaks Into Professional Sports With Chicago Red Stars
BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Kaylee Liberty (Arlington Heights, Ill.), who is a Sport Management major as well as a member of the women's ice hockey program, recently completed an internship with the Chicago Red Stars. Here's a look into her internship experience.

1) Why Chicago Red Stars?

The reason why I reached out to work with the Chicago Red Stars is that I wanted to get my foot in the door at a young age with professional sports. The Chicago Red Stars are a well-known women's soccer team that is run by a very professional group of members. I found this internship on Indeed. The description of the internship sounded very interesting and in the right direction to what I want to do in the future.

2) What was the process like to obtain your internship?

My process of obtaining this internship was through a job searching site called Indeed. I found this internship in 2020 before COVID-19. Once COVID hit, we had to shut down to where I wasn't able to complete the internship. They then reached out to me last semester in the spring, asking if I was interested in a different form of an internship than I previously put my resume in for but the positions had similar objectives. Soon after emailing and having a Zoom interview with Natalie Wintake, the internship coordinator, she offered me the internship right on the spot.

3) Describe your overall internship experience.

My overall experience at this internship was incredible because I had an amazing team that I got to work with and an amazing internship coordinator. Natalie Wintake helped me learn all the steps of being in the partnership process and allowed me to run one of the partnerships with Jet's Pizza. This allowed me to learn a different part that I didn't get to see in my first internship with Energy Volleyball Club. We also had the chance to join in on calls and help run and organize the social media outlets for the Chicago Red Stars.

4) What have you learned from your internship?

Overall, I have learned how to collect and distribute social media posts based on the partnerships they had. We would use those to send to our partners and keep them connected to the Red Stars. Another objective I learned was to plan and set up game days to what days we will have our big promoters.

5) How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

This internship will help me in moving forward by giving me more experience in the professional sports world and expanding my knowledge. This internship is also a good internship to have on my resume for future job searching. I am also planning on finding an internship related to this last internship for this coming summer.
