GORHAM, Maine – The Endicott women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Southern Maine (USM, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at USM Ice Arena.
Makenzie Villiard's (Fenton, Mich.) first career goal late in the second period (17:17) held true to give the Gulls the eventual victory in their season opener.
Quin Healy (Melrose, Mass.) also found the back of the net in the win with a tally at the 17:33 mark of the first period.
Meanwhile, in goal, Michaela O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.) stopped 20 shots – including an individual best 11 in the third period – to improve to 9-0-0 in her career (second career shutout).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 4-1-1 all-time against Southern Maine.
- Healy registered her first career goal and second career assist on Villiard's game-winner.
- Jess Burwell (Hooksett, N.H.) and Aurora Devereaux (Scituate, Mass.) both dished out helpers (second career | third career).
- The Gulls are 6-0-1 in season openers all-time, which includes a 4-0-1 record against the Huskies in those games.
