Kalinowski’s Late Third Period Tally Lifts Men’s Ice Hockey Past Salve Regina, 2-1

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Tied 1-1 late in the third period, Endicott senior forward Jason Kalinowski (Stamford, Conn.) buried a loose puck in front of the net with 24.2-seconds to play to lift the Gulls over Salve Regina, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Portsmouth Abbey Rink.

Kalinowski's program record 10th career game-winner came after Jake Simons (Coral Springs, Fla.) snapped a wrist shot from the high slot that was initially stopped by Seahawks' goalie Louis-Felix St. Jean (St. Bruno, Quebec) but settled in front of the crease for Kalinowski who backhanded it home for the win.

Meanwhile, in the second period, Thomas Albert (Reading, Mass.) potted his fourth goal of the season at the 9:48 mark to give Endicott an initial 1-0 lead.

Albert used a forehand-to-backhand deke to beat a Salve Regina defender and St. Jean in the same motion at the left post.

Svet Kuchynski (Minsk, Belarus) initiated the tally in the Gulls' defensive zone when corralled a loose puck and fed Connor Amsley (Carlisle, Pa.) with a quick touch pass to get Endicott's odd-man rush started.

From there, Amsley carried the puck all the way up the center of the ice prior to feeding Albert with a drop pass on the left wing of Salve Regina's offensive zone that promptly turned into a cross-ice, give-and-go sequence between Kuchynski and Albert for the eventual tally.

In goal, Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) made 27 saves to improve to 16-4-0 on the season.

  • Tonight's victory clinched Endicott's first-ever regular season series sweep against Salve Regina.
  • Endicott extended its winning streak to nine straight games with tonight's triumph.
  • The Gulls are 8-1-0 on the road this season.
