No. 1 Baseball Rallies Past Southern Maine, 8-4

GORHAM, Maine — The No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated Southern Maine, 8-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field.

WP (1-0): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
LP (0-1): Jack Bruno (Upton, Mass.) — 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
SV (1): Ryan Walton (Boylston, Mass.) — 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Knotted at 1-1 in the third inning, Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) gave the Gulls a 2-1 advantage with a solo shot to right center, his fourth of the season.

However, the Huskies showed resilience, and the two teams exchanged runs in the following three frames.

Trailing by a run in the top of the seventh, AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch go-ahead two-run double to hand the Gulls a 5-4 lead, which they held on to the rest of the way.

The Blue and Green added some insurance in the eighth and ninth innings thanks to an RBI single from Elijah Moses (Haverhill, Mass.), a TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) RBI groundout, and a Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) sac fly to left.

The back end of the Gulls bullpen was a major decider in the contest. Scully earned his first win of the season with his solid inning and a third of relief, stranding two runners following his entrance in the sixth. He then handed the ball off to Walton, who earned his first career save with two scoreless innings of relief.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 16-22 in the all-time series against the Huskies.
  • James Benestad (Northborough, Mass.) tied a career-high and led the Gulls with three hits in the contest.
  • Scully's win is the first of his career.
  • Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) tied a career-high with his three walks.
  • MacDougall also swiped three bags in the contest. His 25 stolen bases lead the CCC by a wide margin, and place him tied for 12th in the nation.
