BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team topped Brandeis, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon from North Field.
WP (2-1): Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) — 8+ IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
LP (0-1): James Murphy (Providence, R.I.) — 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
SV (1): Evan Scully (Maynard, Mass.) — 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Tied scoreless in the bottom of the second, James Benestad (Northborough, Mass.) ripped a single up the middle to plate Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) from second.
The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the eighth when the Gulls found some insurance with a TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) RBI base knock to left, again scoring Wladkowski from second.
Those runs were all Cannata needed on the mound. He stifled the Judges throughout his eight-inning performance, holding them to just two hits. He did not allow a base runner until the top of the fifth, when a Brandeis seeing-eye single made its way past the mound and into center field.
He started the ninth inning with just that one hit allowed, but a leadoff double led to his removal and Scully's emergence from the bullpen. Scully recorded the final three outs via two strikeouts and a pop-up, stranding the bases loaded for the Judges and handing the Blue and Green its 12th consecutive victory.
