Merrimack Tops Women’s Tennis, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team lost to NCAA Division I opponent Merrimack College, 9-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, the Gulls showed plenty of grit at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots as the pairings of Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) / Ripley Uyeda (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) / Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.) both fell in their respective flights by identical 8-6 scores.

The Gulls also saw Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) and Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) put together strong performances at No. 2 (4-6, 6-3, 3-10) and No. 5 (7-5, 5-7, 4-10) singles.

TOP QUOTE

"Our doubles is too conservative. We need to lock in and work on more offensive practice," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "With that said, I'm proud of the resiliency we showed heading into singles. We were more offensive and have a lot of nice things to build off of."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Merrimack is coached by Endicott women's tennis alum Alexi Losano '19 (Saugus, Mass.)
  • Today's contest was the first dual match of the season for the Warriors.
  • The Gulls are now 1-2 at home this fall.
